Basic acting technique and skills are
acquired through a mixture of acting, voice and movement exercises, and
improvisations in a safe, encouraging small acting class
• Initial acting exercises are based on the Meisner
technique, and proceed to incorporate
those of Stanislavky, Adler and other
masters of the craft. These experiences will
prepare you to trust yourself to be present
'in the moment' and be responsive to your
acting partners.
• The voice is vital to the actor's instrument and ability to
convey the text of plays
properly. We explore many techniques to
keep this strong, limber, and working in
tandem with the emotional life.
• The body is equally important for the actor to convey the
life of a character and
demands of the play. We practice movement
skills to align and strengthen the body,
unlock physical blocks, and essentially
awaken the senses.
• Beginner improvisations enliven the imagination, encourage
working in a playful
manner, and experience the freedom within
working with text.
• Finally, we begin to work with monologues and short scenes
to experience utilizing the
actor's technique with the text of the
playwright
Acting Dynamics allows the
beginning actor to integrate these skills in
one inclusive class instead of many different acting, movement or voice classes
